The computer department at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, has been working with us this summer to develop a new, and hopefully improved, web site. If all goes as planned next moth we will have it available for the public. The web address will be the same as it is now, so you will not havve to anything different to log on. Just enjoy the new, easier to use, web site.

It’s time for the Annual Farm Picnic!

Lucky number seven. This will be the  seventh year for the August picnic on the farm.  As in year’s past it will be held at the Hanauska farm outside of Milton.  This year’s picnic will be held on Thursday, August 14 at noon.  Our menu this year will be Grilled Pork Chops, Farm Fresh Vegetables, and Cookies and Bars for dessert.  Once again, there will be wagon rides if  weather permits.  Anyone who wishes to attend must sign up in advance so there will be plenty of food.  Reservations must be made by Tuesday, August 12th at noon.  Cost for the picnic is $6.00 and can be paid at the door or in advance when you sign up.  The Hanauska farm is located 4 miles outside of Milton on Vickerman Road.  Rides will be furnished for those who need them.  For more details and directions please call TGP at 868-3500.  Please note:  TGP will close at noon that day.

Arts and Crafts at the Chicken BBQ

It’s never too early to be thinking of the holidays and gift giving.  The annual MACCIT (Milton Area Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism) Chicken BBQ and Arts and Crafts Fair will be held Sunday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  This is the perfect time to get all your shopping done.   The Gathering Place will be having it’s own craft booth at this event.  Our volunteers have been crafting many items to sell this year.  This will be a major fund-raiser for us.  All proceeds will go back to The Gathering Place to help with operating expenses.   Our booth will be located on the Goodrich Park grounds along with other non-profit organizations.  All of our handmade/homemade works of art will be for sale.  You will see baskets, jewelry, handmade towels, fabric plates, knitted mittens and hats, greeting cards and much more!  This annual event draws thousands of visitors to Milton.  Let’s all hope it doesn’t rain this year.

We are still in need of handmade items such as knitted mittens, dish cloths etc or any handcrafted items.  Please drop them off at The Gathering Place by Wednesday, August 13th.

We need workers to sign up to work  shifts at our booth at the chicken BBQ.  There is a sign up sheet at the front desk.  Each shift will be two hours  throughout the day.

Thank You Mike Diamond

As you come and go this month, take a moment to check out our freshly painted flag pole.  We are also sporting a brand new flag.  A big thank you goes out to Mike Diamond, who will be a senior this year at Milton High School.  Mike, 17, is the son of Peter and Cathy Diamond.  Mike and his friend Riley Bailey chose The Gathering Place as the recipient of their gift of service.  Mike is an Eagle Scout with Troop 417 and he needed a service requirement for his leadership badge.  With the supervision of his father Peter, Mike and Riley scraped and repainted our flag pole and placed a brand new flag on it.  It was ready for the 4th of July holiday.

We appreciate the work and are proud to have the flag pole once again looking fresh and well cared for!

Subs Needed Pleeeeze!

Flexibility is the key to having the help needed to operate the dining center Monday through Friday.  Our “regular” volunteers are a wonderfully dedicated group, but even they need some time off!  That is when our substitute volunteers step in to save the day.  Please consider being a volunteer who can work in the kitchen on an “as needed” basis.  You will get a phone call from Lynn or Kari asking if you can help out on a specific day.  If your calendar is open and you say “yes”, you will be assisting in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of the noon meal.  The hours are 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. (possibly earlier) with a break for you to eat dinner also.  Please call TGP and ask for Lynn or Kari.

Please join us for . . .
